European Iron Club Meeting 2026

Conference Recap

The 2026 European Iron Club Meeting brought together 200 delegates from across the international iron research community for three inspiring days of cutting-edge science, collaboration and Irish hospitality at Trinity College Dublin. The meeting featured an impressive 137 submitted abstracts, with a strong balance of participation from both established and emerging researchers (60% senior researchers and 40% early career scientists).

The scientific programme included:

  • 7 scientific symposia
  • 8 plenary/keynote lectures
  • a lightning session
  • 7 selected oral abstract sessions
  • 4 poster sessions

showcasing the latest advances in iron biology, metabolism, immunity, infection, cardiovascular disease, cancer, technology and translational medicine. More than 45 invited and selected speakers contributed to a dynamic programme that highlighted both established leaders in the field and outstanding emerging investigators. The meeting was made possible through the dedication of the Local Organising Committee, Suzanne Cloonan (Trinity College Dublin) and John Ryan (RCSI, Dublin), together with an outstanding Scientific Committee comprising:

Beyond the scientific sessions, delegates enjoyed a vibrant social programme that celebrated Irish culture and encouraged networking. The meeting opened with a memorable Welcome Reception, followed by a Bloomsday walking tour through Dublin, and concluded with the traditional Rusty Run, bringing participants together for an energetic start to the final day. The European Iron Club Meeting 2026 successfully fostered new collaborations, showcased exciting scientific discoveries, and strengthened connections across the global iron research community, leaving delegates looking forward to the next EIC meeting.
